Centre to focus on leadership training

- By TIMOCI VULA

LEADERSHIP Fiji (LF) is now actively working at opening a leadership centre in Fiji in response to a high demand for leadership programs in the country.

Leadership Fiji founder and board chairperson, William Parkinson confirmed the proposed plan and work “actively” in progress by the LF team.

He said the proposed centre was a long-term goal and concrete steps were now enabled to proceed towards execution in the next year or so.

“I want to acknowledge that we are becoming busier and busier, thanks to increasing demands for leadership training programs.”

Mr Parkinson also acknowledged partners and sponsors whose support and determination ensured the continuation of the program.

“We can now dream of bigger things. And we are now starting to actively look at our big dream, which is to open a leadership centre at some stage in the future,” Mr Parkinson said at the launch of the LF2024 program and induction of the LF2022 fellows last week.

A year ago he said, LF was in a “desperate situation” and they were concerned about the future of the program.

The LF team, led by chief executive officer Sharyne Fong who “made a huge impact on that and turned things around and I can say our finances are very healthy”.

Mr Parkinson said next now was to deliver an executive leadership program this year; targeted at senior executives who missed out on LF in the earlier parts of their leadership career and cannot commit to the current fortnightly sessions over an eight-month period.

Last year alone, LF delivered training to seven different organisations; 252 individuals outside of the core LF program.

That has become an important source of revenue to support the LF dream, he said.

Launched in Suva in 2001, LF began its programs in 2002 and now has 536 alumnus.
