Rewa routs Tailevu Naitasiri

- By TALEI MATAIRAKULA

THREE first half goals was enough for Extra Rewa to sink Tailevu Naitasiri in round three of the Digicel Fiji Premier League at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

Rewa made their chances count in this match as they thumped Tailevu Naitasiri 5-1.

Tailevu Naitasiri had no answer to the surging attacks of the Delta Tigers as Epeli Valevou opened the account in the 26th minute of play.

Twelve minutes later captain Setareki Hughes netted their second before crafty youngster Asivorosi Rabo deceived goalkeeper Sitiveni

Matalaba to bag their third.

Rewa continued to build the momentum in the second spell, mounting pressure on the Sky Blues until they won a penalty shot after Josaia Sela was fouled inside the box by Gary Kubu.

Young Delon Shankar did not miss from the spot and this was soon backed up by their fifth goal to Iosefo Verevou.

Mosese Nabose pulled one back for Tailevu Naitasiri but it came a little too late as Rodeck Singh’s men secured the maximum points.

“A good performance from the boys, from the first whistle they showed a lot of character, they showed that they have the ability to score goals,” Rewa coach Singh stated.

“This is the reason I got frustrated because I know them, they’re the players that can score many goals but it’s good they came out to fight and proved their worth.

“We did a bit more training on the finishing and we had a good talk with the boys making them realise what’s at stake. We don’t want to be criticized all the time and we needed to show people why Rewa is going to play in the O-League. Performances like this gives the statement of why we are going to play in the OLeague.”

Rewa faces Nasinu next while Tailevu Naitasiri meets Suva.
