Accountants’ role pivotal - Immanuel
IN this rapidly evolving world, the role of professional accountants is pivotal.
Professional accountants are not just bookkeepers, they are important agents of change, strategic advisers, enablers of growth and architects of a sustainable tomorrow.
Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel made the remarks while launching the new Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) logo in Suva yesterday.
He said FICA, formerly the Fiji Institute of Accountants, had played a vital role in the country’s financial landscape by supporting the development, adoption and implementation of high-quality international standards for a future-ready accountancy profession.
“Professional accounting bodies globally have the important mandate of representing, promoting and enhancing the global accountancy profession. In similar vein, the institute is the voice for the nation’s professional accountants,” Mr Immanuel said.
He says the accounting profession has a special place in the economy because they contribute to the nation’s development by providing essential financial information to decision-makers, “enabling them to make informed choices about resource allocation, investment, and other economic activities”.
“The effective use of accounting information contributes to sustainable economic growth, job creation, poverty reduction and other development objectives,” he said.
He said the institute had worked closely with governments, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and other stakeholders on policies impacting businesses, taxpayers the economy.
He said the institute continued to collaborate with Business Assistance Fiji and assist MSMEs access loan and other financial services.
