New Prefects ready to lead
THE school prefects for Rampur College in Navua are ready to take on their leadership role for this academic year. Leading the school prefect body as the head boy is Rohan Akshay Sharma and the head girl is Anisha Arpana Lata.
More than 100 students were inducted as prefects at the school last week.
Rohan Akshay Sharma, who is from Vakabalea in Navua, had a leadership role at the school prior to being selected as the head boy this year.
"I would like to thank the Almighty God for this blessing and I would also like to thank my parents for their support over the years," Sharma said.
"I'm so blessed to be selected as the head boy for the college. I didn't expect to be the head boy, so I thank the teachers for choosing me this year."
The 17-year-old encouraged other students who wish to take up leadership roles to be committed and dedicated to the calling.
"Be sure to take care of others if you want to be a leader”.
Head girl, Anisha Arpana Lata said being in Year 13 was an accomplishment and being given the opportunity to also be the head girl was a bonus.
"I'm grateful to the teachers for giving me this opportunity and I would like to thank my parents for supporting me," she said.
"It's a challenge to take up this responsibility but I believe that the support from all the prefects will help me."
She said that with the help of the head boy and other prefects she will be able to juggle her leadership role and her academic goals.
"Last year I scored 382 in the Year 12 external examination. I hope to exceed that mark in Year 13”.
Her message to young students who might want to take up leadership roles in the future is “learn to understand students”.
"In order for someone to be a leader they need to be vocal, be able to understand their peers and be able to communicate well with the teachers at all times.”
Parents, guardians, teachers and invited guests turned up in numbers to witness the school’s prefect investiture ceremony.
