Tagi leads Nasinu

- By JOHN CHETTY

TAGI Vonolagi, a former national team captain, has been appointed the head coach of the Nasinu Football Association.

The former national goalkeeper takes over from Mohammed Zahid Erfhan after Nasinu’s disappointing start to the 2024 Digicel Fiji Premier League.

Under Erfhan’s leadership, the team has lost three consecutive matches and find themselves at the bottom of the standings.

Vonolagi, who is well-known for his time playing for Nasinu, is no stranger to coaching the district team.

He previously guided the team on multiple occasions and has now taken on the challenge of turning their fortunes around.

Despite recently assisting the TIV Sagam team from Rewa, Vonolagi was approached by Nasinu FC and has accepted the opportunity to help his former team.

“So happy to help a former team, they are in a shaggy moment in the competition, they lost all three matches and facing Rewa FC this week is something we really need to focus on,” said Vonolagi.

He highlights the importance of player fitness and their understanding of their roles on the field, as well as the need to work on transitioning play and counter-attacking strategies.

“We have a lot of young players on the team, really need to work on their roles in the field and do better.”

Nasinu will take on their neighbours in round four of the DFPL at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori at 3pm on Sunday. In another match at the same venue, Tailevu Naitasiri battles Suva at 1pm.

In two other matches on Sunday, both beginning at 3pm, Nadi battles Nadroga at Prince Charles Park while Ba hosts Navua at the Fiji FA Academy Ground in Ba.

In the lone match on Saturday, Labasa takes on Lautoka at 1.30pm at Subrail Park.
