- By TALEI MATAIRAKULA

THE ROOSTER Chicken Fijian Drua women received some inspiring words from President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere during the team’s itatau at the State House in Suva yesterday.

After months of pre-season training, the defending Super W champions will set sail soon with 2023 finalist, the Reds their first stop of the season.

Ratu Wiliame commended their achievements in the past two successful seasons and recognised the work of those behind the scenes in driving the Drua brand.

He recognised the work done by the support staff in keeping the Drua afloat as they embark on their third season in Australia’s premier women’s rugby competition.

The President also reminded the players to remember who and why they are playing.

“Thank you, ladies, for having that passion and for representing Fiji in rugby. This is just the first step to many good things in life, go and play your hearts out,” he said in his address.

“Remember you are going to represent Fiji, yourself, your families, and all of us, so when you go out there remember all that. You are there because we saw something in you so, go out and make yourselves proud.

“This is a 50-acre property, leave everything here with us and just take the Drua, you may have some personal issues that you cannot share, if you know that is going to be a hiccup to your game then leave it here with us. Always learn to trust and listen to your heart in everything that you do.”

The Drua face the Reds in a rematch of the 2023 Super W final on Saturday, March 17 at Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
