- By REPEKA NASIKO

INTERNATIONAL Women’s Day is a time when the world pauses to recognise women and their immense contribution to every aspect of life.

Annually, the day is spent highlighting women who have made exceptional strides in their personal and professional paths, while weathering the storm of criticisms, inequity and gender stereotypes.

This year, Flour Mills of Fiji Foods Ltd puts the spotlight on one of their own, Group Quality manager Priya Prasad, who rose through the ranks of the company to become a leading voice for the local manufacturer.

Originally from Savusavu, Ms Prasad’s journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence and continuous growth.

“Armed with a strong educational background, Priya pursued her passion for leadership and management, completing an Advanced Diploma in Leadership and Management from TAFE, a Graduate Diploma in Industrial Lab Tech, a Certificate in Hospitality Operations from FNU and Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Health-Food Safety Management,” the company stated in a statement.

“Priya’s professional journey commenced with a brief stint as an attache quality controller at British American Tobacco, where she gained valuable insights into quality control processes. However, it was her transition to FMF Foods Ltd in 2010 that marked the beginning of a transformative phase in her career. Joining as a quality controller at FMF’s biscuit factory, Ms Priya’s dedication and expertise soon propelled her into the spotlight.

“In 2013, Priya embraced new challenges as she transitioned to Atpack, assuming the role of Quality Assurance Officer. Her relentless pursuit of excellence and her ability to navigate complex quality standards earned her accolades and recognition within the industry. Undeterred by the challenges, Ms Priya returned to the biscuit factory in 2016, where her career trajectory soared to new heights.

“Recognising her exceptional contributions, Priya was promoted to the position of Quality Assurance supervisor in 2018, a testament to her leadership abilities and commitment to excellence.”

After being appointed Assistant Quality Assurance manager in 2021, Ms Prasad’s achievements reached a turning point in 2023 when she was promoted to Group Quality manager.

A role which, according to the company, underscored her pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards

of quality across diverse manufacturing operations.

“Priya’s responsibilities encompass ensuring consistency in manufacturing output, adhering to government and industry standards, and surpassing customer expectations.

“Priya’s passion for excellence extends beyond the confines of her role; she is deeply committed to staying abreast of global food standards, continually seeking opportunities to enhance her knowledge and expertise.

“Her dedication to her craft and her unwavering pursuit of excellence serves as an inspiration to aspiring professionals and women worldwide.

“As we celebrate Women’s International Day, Priya Prasad’s journey serves as a poignant reminder of the power of resilience, determination, and leadership in shaping a brighter future.”
