- By ANASILINI NATOGA

SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua flyhalf Kemu Valetini reminded students at Tilak High School the importance of staying focused to win the game against Crusaders at Churchill Park tomorrow.

Addressing a captivated audience of over 1000 students on Wednesday, Valetini shared personal stories and goals while also raising awareness about the importance of saying no to drugs.

Discussing the challenges of maintaining focus, Valetini acknowledged the distractions that arise throughout the week. He highlighted his mental and physical preparation, pointing to the significance of setting goals and maintaining a disciplined routine.

“There are distractions and stuff like that to say it’s more difficult to stay focus at the start of the week, preparing myself mentally, physically, writing down in my book, writing down my goals that I want to do for the week and what I want to take.

“I make sure I’m ticking the boxes we’re working towards the end goal which is winning the game on Saturday,” Valetini said.

The Galoa, Kadavu native believes the main learnings from Moana Pasifika game is to be patient with possession and utilise all opportunities.

“One of the key learnings from Moana Pasifika game is to be patient with the ball and making use of the opportunities. Sometimes we let few tries slip, I guess we just didn’t function well as a team,” Valetini added.

Anticipating an exciting clash against the Crusaders, Valetini expressed the team’s primary aim of securing their first win and making the fans happy.

Despite acknowledging the respect for the Crusaders, Valetini emphasized that the team would not rely on last year’s victory, recognizing the unpredictable nature of rugby.

“It’s rugby anything can happen on the day, but if it does happen again then it will be great.”

The 28-year-old, calm and collected kicker, calls on the fans support.

“Come in numbers on Saturday we really need that support from the sideline, you guys were amazing last year throughout the whole season coming out to the games,” Valetini added.

The match kicks off at 1.05pm.
