Strength of a woman

- By NACANIELI. TUILEVUKA

AT 39-years-old, Alekisada Lolo has faced her fair share of challenges. Once a security guard at Nadi International Airport, Alekisada found herself without a job in 2019 when the airport closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

With borders shut and travel halted, opportunities dried up, but Alekisada refused to be defeated.

"This did not deter me," she said. The mother of two returned to her hometown of Labasa in quest to find work, but the job market proved unforgiving. "So, I thought of being a market vendor," she said.

"My stall boasts a diverse selection that caters for the needs of the community."

Despite the challenges of running a small business, Alekisada's entrepreneurial spirit shines through, driving her to succeed against the odds. "I buy my produce from a middleman and sell it. Sometimes, I get good money but other times I don't," she said.

Her journey is more than just financial survival; it's about providing for her family. Her resilience is further underscored by the trials she has endured in her personal life.

"In 2011, I made the difficult decision to separate from my husband, setting out on a new path of independence," she said.

"Four years later, I finalised my divorce, closing one chapter of my life,” she shared.

Despite the hardships she has faced, Alekisada remains steadfast in her determination to build a better life for herself and her children.

She stands as an inspiration to all who dare to dream of a better tomorrow, no matter the obstacles they may face.

There is always hope out there if you believe.
