Education grant for girls, women

- By TIMOCI VULA

FOURTEEN years running and the annual Westpac Women and Girls Education Grant program is ready to launch for another year.

This initiative by Westpac Banking Corporation provides financial assistance to girls and women in their educational pursuit.

The grant program is divided into three categories — primary, secondary and tertiary or adult learners.

Women and girls are advised to note this year’s categories and new themes, and to prepare their nominations to be submitted in April.

The questions for this year:

● Primary school participants ‘Show us what your best world would look like: where girls are given the support they need to succeed’

● Secondary school participants – ‘What ‘count her in. Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress mean to them and how they would bring this to life in Fiji’.

● Tertiary/adult learners – ‘Share an experience you’ve encountered or witnessed in Fiji that has shown how investing in women and girls helped to accelerate progress’.

“We’ve run this particular program for 14 consecutive years now and are proud to continue supporting women and girls of Fiji,” Westpac Fiji chief executive Shane Smith said.

“Last year, we received over 1000 applications from all across Fiji with a large majority being from online applications, which expands our reach as well as in a sustainable way.”

He said they worked with various local stakeholders to ensure students across Fiji had access, ample time and support to create their submissions.

Primary school winners will receive $500, secondary - $1000, and tertiary or adult learners - $2500.
