Nadi beats Namosi, returns to winning ways

NADI got back to winning ways after they defeated Namosi 34-16 in round three of the Skipper Cup competitio­n at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

Backed by a vocal home crowd, the Jetsetters put on a show as they scored five tries to down the disappoint­ment of last week where they were defeated by Macuata.

Namosi was on the scoreboard first with flyhalf Apisai Naqamu converting a penalty for a 3-0 lead.

Minutes later Nadi lock, Peni Naruma went over for a converted try for a 7-3 lead.

The Nadi forwards put in the hard hits with Namosi defence crumbling under pressure, as Naruma scored his second to extend the lead to 12-3.

With 10 minutes left to the break, Namosi scored a try through flanker Kelemeta Ligaigusu.

The try was cancelled minutes from half-time when Nadi prop Josua Kotobalavu put the Jetsetters further ahead 19-8.

Namosi looked a bit more organised in the second half and had few good opportunit­ies to take the lead early.

Timoci Tiloko, who came off the bench kicked a penalty to reduce the lead to 19-11.

Ten minutes later, Nadi hooker Peni Malumu’s try further extended their lead to 26-11.

Sireli Masiwini scored another try for the hosts minutes later.

Namosi scored a consolatio­n try in the dying stages through Atonio Qio.

Nadi’s Navitalai Tuilawa kicked a drop goal at the end for a 34-16 win.

Nadi manager Epeli Qoro said they were happy with the win and looked forward to facing Naitasiri next week.

Namosi captain Akapusi Rokoqica said they needed to do better and rectify their mistakes before they face Lautoka at Churchill Park next week.
