Home side to keep possession

- By NAVNESH REDDY

THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will look to keep possession and test the waters against a Crusaders side that is under pressure to register its first win.

The two side face-off at Churchill Park in Lautoka today at 1.05pm, both chasing their first win on the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition.

Fijian Drua head coach Mick Byrne said “we want to hang on to the ball” and “ask questions to the (Crusaders) defence”.

He said that had been their goal at the start of the year, however, they had not been successful in implementing that in the first two rounds of the 2024 season.

“We have not done that as well as we would have liked and tomorrow (today), on our home ground, we want to achieve that,” he said.

Byrne added that the boys had a very good training session throughout the week.

“Playing with the wind or the sun at your back can only benefit you if you are playing your best rugby.

“We need to make sure we get out there and get the game going.”

He said they had brought in a professional attitude to the team and apart from the matchday 23 players, the entire squad was “ready”.

“Everybody that is not playing is also preparing, so if there is any changes, we would be ready to go.”

He called on the fans to come out in large numbers to support their team.

The side had its captain’s run at the Fiji Airways training field in Legalega, Nadi yesterday.

Meanwhile the Fiji Meteorological Service forecasts a trough of low pressure is expected to approach the group from the west and affect parts of Fiji from later today with a heavy rain alert now in force for parts of Fiji.
