DESPITE the rainy weather gripping the Capital City yesterday, the National Netball Centre witnessed an impressive turnout of parents and students rallying behind their schools in the ongoing Suva primary schools netball competition.

Suva Primary Schools Netball president Elenoa Vadei expressed her delight at the overwhelming support shown by spectators and netball enthusiasts yesterday.

“We are thrilled to see such a large turnout, “We are happy to see all the parents and families of players competing come out in numbers as it shows us that we have a very strong support system,” she said.

The event marked the second week of the competition, featuring intense match-ups across the under-nine to under-14 age categories, with teams battling it out in the third and fourth round of pool games.

With four weekends remaining until the finals, anticipation and enthusiasm are running high among participating schools.

“A significant turnout not only boosts the players’ morale but also reaffirms the steadfast support they can count on.”

Looking back to last year’s competition, Vadei highlighted a notable growth in participation compared which she said was a positive sign for the sport in the capital city.

“From 94 teams last year to an impressive 104 teams vying for glory this year, tells us that the sport of netball is still growing here in Suva,” she explained.

Looking ahead, the association is gearing up to select top-performing players across various grades to represent Suva at the upcoming Fiji Schools Netball Finals, which is set to place in Nadi in the coming months.

“Nadi will serve as the stage for this year’s nationals, and we are committed to fielding our finest talent across the six different grades.”

With a total of 20 schools competing in the Suva primary schools netball competition, the anticipation and excitement surrounding the event continue to escalate following its successful kick-off last weekend.
