QVSOB claims Mosese Taga Shield
LAMI Cavaliers are the new holders of the FMF Escott Shield, after winning by default against Police Blues yesterday.
Former holders Police Blues are not taking part in the competition this year.
Meanwhile, the Queen Victoria School Old Boys Club successfully defeated Lakeba to claim the Mosese Taga Shield at the Bidesi Grounds in Suva yesterday.
The challengers managed to beat the shield holders 25-18 in round one of the competition.
Team manager Temo Taufa said the boys dug deep for the win and were able to execute their game plan despite the rainy weather in the capital city.
“The boys had to fight hard for the win, and we’re happy that they were able to go on the field and deliver what was asked of them.”
Looking at their match yesterday, he mentioned there were a handful of areas they needed to work on, and would be working on these shortcomings during the week.
“The boys will sit down with our coach and go through some of our weaknesses and see what we can do to work on them.”
Looking ahead to the rest of the competition, he said their goal was to defend the shield from any other challengers over the next few weeks.
“Since we have the shield now, tough teams will be coming to challenge us so we have to prepare well to defend our title.”
