$0.5 million project provides relief from water woes
“NO longer will you have to endure the hardships of fetching water from distant sources, instead you can now enjoy the convenience and dignity of accessing clear water right at their doorstep.”
Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, while commissioning the Tubairata and Mavua village rural water project in Nadroga that cost approximately $592,000, highlighted the impact of this amenity to the lives of 146 households that it will service.
“The significance of this project cannot be overstated. It not only provides a sustainable solution to the water challenges faced by the villagers but also safeguard the health and well-being of its residents,” Minister Tuisawau said.
These sentiments were echoed by the Mata ni Tikina Mavua, Ifereimi Turukawa, who highlighted the challenges the communities faced over the years, even to the extent of using river water for their daily needs.
“We have waited so long for this assistance that’s why we are so grateful to the Government for clean drinking water for both villages,” Mr Turukawa said.
The water project entailed the construction of new dams, new reservoirs and pipe fittings.
Minister Tuisawau commended the Water Authority of Fiji and community members who played a role in making the project a reality.
“From the workers at Water Authority of Fiji who worked tirelessly to the community members who supported and cooperated throughout the process, your dedication and commitment have not gone unnoticed,” he said.
Minister Tuisawau urged the community to support the Village Water Committee that will be responsible for the management of the rural water system as it has been appointed to ensure that issues of water disruptions are attended to. He further encouraged the community to use water wisely “as every of water counts”.
