THE newly commissioned Karavi weighbridge will play a crucial role in preserving infrastructure for future generations and preventing road accidents.

This was shared by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) board chair, Inosi Kurudrani, who highlighted that the establishment of this critical infrastructure will not only benefit the transportation sector but communities around the area as well.

“The Weighbridge station presents a major advancement in our efforts to ensure road safety and protect our infrastructure. Overloaded vehicles pose a serious risk to road safety and cause extensive damage to our roads and bridges.”

“By giving us the means of efficiency, efficiently enforcing weight regulations, the Karavi Weighbridge will benefit LTA’s operations in several ways.”

“It will announce our ability to monitor and regulate the weight of vehicles allowing us to enforce compliance with greater efficiency.”

“These, in turn, strengthen our role as a regulator and ensure that all operators adhere to the state’s same standard, promoting fair competition and a level playing field for business.”

“As an organisation, the LTA is committed to aligning our operations with the goals and targets set by the Government.”

“We recognise the importance of projects like the Karavi weighbridge in achieving these goals and we will continue to work tirelessly to contribute to the development of our nation’s infrastructure and economy.”

Emphasising the need for investment in sustainable infrastructures, the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau shared that the Coalition Government will continue to look towards investing in future sustainable projects.

He shared that the Coalition Government needs to listen to the people on their needs and improve infrastructure in various sectors.

“For this Government, we would like to put in place the infrastructure plans and sustainable projects, whether it’s funded by our income as a nation or in terms of external internal financing, which will sustain us into the future.”

The Minister reiterated that infrastructures such as these need to be efficiently planned and the ministry was also looking for funding from various development partners especially in climate financing to ensure the resilience of infrastructure.
