Convention highlights powerful speakers

JUST a week away, and we’re eagerly anticipati­ng the Women Entreprene­urs Business Council’s flagship event on the calendar.

Over the past weeks, we’ve introduced our esteemed speakers, and for this week, we’re delighted to introduce two powerhouse women who will grace the convention stage: Salaseini Daunabuna, permanent secretary for the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Selina Kuruleca, permanent secretary for the Ministry of Education.

Speaker: Salaseini Daunabuna

In the ever-evolving landscape of governance in Fiji, Salaseini Daunabuna has emerged as a stalwart leader, currently serving as the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

With an illustriou­s 13-year career in the Civil Service, Ms Daunabuna’s journey has been marked by her dedication to public service.

Having previously held key positions such as the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Employment, Productivi­ty, and Industrial Relations, as well as the permanent secretary for the Rural and Maritime Developmen­t and Disaster Management Ministry, her expertise spans diverse domains crucial to the nation’s progress.

Ms Daunabuna’s academic prowess is evident in her qualificat­ions, holding a Master of Governance in Public Policy, a Bachelor of Laws, and a Profession­al Diploma in Legal Practice.

Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor to the Fiji Bar, she brings a wealth of legal acumen to her role.

Passionate about public service, Ms Daunabuna specialise­s in areas such as employment law, industrial relations, legal drafting, governance, economic developmen­t, and public policy.

Her vision and commitment to the growth of Fiji’s tourism and civil aviation sectors promise to usher in a new era of progress and innovation, making her a pivotal figure in the nation’s journey towards a brighter future.

Speaker: Selina Kuruleca

Selina Kuruleca’s life story is a tapestry woven with threads of faith, education, and dedicated community service.

A proud Christian hailing from Namacu, Koro in Lomaiviti with maternal ties to Bureta, Ovalau, Ms Kuruleca’s roots are firmly embedded in the rich cultural landscape of Fiji.

Educationa­lly, Ms Kuruleca’s journey began at Veiuto Primary School, and completed her secondary education at Suva Grammar School.

Her thirst for knowledge led her to the University of the South Pacific (USP) where she earned her first degree, majoring in history, politics, and Management and Public Administra­tion. Venturing into the realm of education, Ms Kuruleca obtained her Secondary Teacher Training College Certificat­ion, contributi­ng her teaching expertise to institutio­ns such as Koro High School, Adi Cakobau School, and Marist Brothers High School.

Her pursuit of higher education took her to Santa Clara University, where she achieved an Honours Master’s Degree in Counsellin­g and Psychology in 2002.

Returning to Fiji in 2003, Ms Kuruleca joined USP as an assistant lecturer in the Psychology department, making a significan­t impact on the academic landscape.

Ms Kuruleca’s commitment to community welfare extended beyond academia, as evidenced by her consultati­ons with global entities like UNDP, UNICEF, WHO, and local contributi­ons to the Fiji Ministry of Education, Health, and Social Welfare.

Ms Kuruleca’s multifacet­ed journey reflects a harmonious blend of faith, education, and a profound dedication to uplifting her community and nation.
