Some round 4 matches called off

- By TALEI MATAIRAKULA

THE Fiji Rugby Union has postponed a few of its provincial matches this weekend.

Round four of the Skipper Cup, ANZ Marama, Vodafone Vanua and Royal Tea Ranadi are set to kickoff this weekend but teams including Naitasiri, Nadi, Kadavu and Navosa will not be in action.

The Skipper Cup senior and under-20 matches, as well as the Marama clash between Naitasiri and Nadi, have been postponed due to unavailability of grounds.

“There was a clash of bookings for Ratu Cakobau Park, Tabadamu is also booked for that venue,” said Jiko Matawalu, the FRU competitions and operations manager.

“We need to share the limited resources that we have. We support both events, we support the 7s tournament and 15s but for this window our priority is 15s. It’s not that we don’t support 7s, so we gave it back to Tabadamu and Naitasiri to discuss that so, Naitasiri came back to us confirming that they are willing to shift their games to the Easter weekend.

“It could be before the Easter weekend but that’s the week that we will be on a break so, it can be on a Thursday if they really don’t want to spoil their weekend. It depends on the hosting team and the visiting union to agree on a date within that week.”

The Vanua clash between Kadavu and Navosa will not go ahead as scheduled.

“Unfortunately for Kadavu, they have a problem with a boat, so they won’t be hosting their game this week. It will be postponed to a later date.”

Goundar Shipping Ltd had posted a confirmation on its social media page that the Lomaiviti Princess 9 that was supposed to service Kadavu last night had been grounded as instructed by MSAF.

Meanwhile, other matches will go on as planned with Macuata taking on Suva at Subrail Park in Labasa, Ba faces Nadroga at Vinod Patel Park in Ba, Tailevu hosts Yasawa at the Nakelo District School Ground and Lautoka battles Namosi at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

All Skipper Cup games will kick off at 3pm.
