Styles of leadership
THE FMF Legacy Leadership Symposium continued with a focus on styles of leadership in the marketplace.
The participants heard from international speakers and Maxwell trainers Cristian Martinez, Ray Popham and Dr Jolander Headley.
There was an in-depth session led by Dr Jolander Headley.
About 230 participants were given tools and resources to craft their own personal mission statements and strategic mission plans and how to put it all into practice.
“Leadership is not positional; its actionable. Leaders have a roadmap. Write down, see it! If the leaders doesn’t see the vision, people never will. You see only what you are prepared to see,” Dr Jolander said.
Dr Jolander highlighted the importance of having a vision: “Leaders are people who see it, pursue it and vision leads the leader.”
“This symposium is such a great platform and an eye opener for me in learning how to lead change. Learning the definition of leadership which is ‘influence is powerful’. Because you learn how to better influence positive change,” Tonga Development Bank Human Resources Manager Piula Tangataevaha shared.
“This platform has also provided a space where we are able to learn from leaders, especially from our speakers to continue to walk in purpose,” Ms Tangataevaha said.
“I have really enjoyed this symposium. Some quotes from the speakers that have stood out for me: ‘be bigger than the outside character is what makes your inner bigger!’ I have learnt to find the gold in everyone that you meet,” Santos Vatoko, a senior executive from Vanuatu said.
Additionally, the participants were reminded on self-discipline and the price tag of leadership.
“Many highly gifted leaders have stopped far short of their potential because they are not willing to pay the price,” says Ana Laqeretabua, FMF Legacy Leadership Symposium partner.
“No leader who has ever led people to do something significant did it without great effort. Any climb uphill must be deliberate, consistent and willful. It is very intentional,” she added.
