NDCs event for youths
THE Regional Hub for the Pacific has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering young social media influencers and climate advocates under the banner #SwipeUp4Change to amplify awareness of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
The initiative will provide hands-on training to equip youth participants with the necessary skills to effectively communicate complex climate topics through social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X.
NDCs represent a crucial framework for nations to outline their goals and actions in combating climate change.
Regional Pacific NDC Hub is taking proactive measures to engage and educate young leaders of its importance and their role in addressing climate change because limited resources among youths have been identified to be a significant challenge.
Social media influencer Wasina Leonnie said making use of the features of social media could definitely have a positive impact in the ongoing fight against climate change.
“As someone who has seen the impact of social media firsthand, I am excited to be part of this initiative to amplify awareness of climate change and NDCs.
“Together, we can leverage our platforms to inspire action and make a real difference in the fight against climate change.”
Youth participants at the Pacific Resilience meeting in August last year voiced a strong desire for communication training to increase visibility on climate change.
Regional Pacific NDC Hub project manager Iris Cordelia Rotzoll said the launch aimed to create synergy that amplified the importance of climate action and Pacific NDCs.
