ROOSTER Chicken Fijian Drua women’s debutant Loraini Senivutu feels honoured and excited to join the Drua this season.

She has been named in an impact player for the opening round of the 2024 Super W competition and could get her break when they face the Reds at Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane on Sunday.

“It’s a great deal joining the Drua this season especially playing against these senior players who I only see on television. I’m grateful and blessed to be playing alongside these senior players,” she said.

When asked about her sources of motivation in her rugby journey, Senivutu’s appreciation extends to a higher power and her unwavering support system.

“I want to thank God Almighty for guiding me and protecting me throughout my journey and not forgetting my parents back home for being really supportive all throughout my game,” she said.

She hails from Matasawalevu, Nakasaleka on Kadavu, with maternal ties in Naqalimare, Navosa. Raised in Sigatoka, where her father works for Water Authority of Fiji, she began her education at Nadroga Sangam Primary School before continuing to Cuvu College.

It was here, at the age of 16 in 2018, that she first dipped her toes into the world of rugby, making her debut in the Nadroga provincial team. In 2023, she played for Police 7s team and also made her debut in the Fijiana XV team for the Japan and Dubai tour.

Now 21, she stands on the brink of another milestone as she prepares to make her debut from the bench wearing the No. 16 jumper this Sunday and is excited for the challenge.

She dedicated her challenge to her families and a special mentioned to her cousin in Australia for supporting her.

“I’m grateful and blessed to debut this Sunday and I want to dedicate this achievement to my families back home and my cousin in Australia for always supporting me.”
