Diamond jubilee for club

- By TEMALESI VONO

A NIGHT to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Golden Dragon Nightclub is set to be staged in Suva on May 17.

The Golden Dragon Diamond Jubilee Fiji is scheduled to be staged at the GPH and will bring together singers, musicians and their families from around the world to salute the musicians who have performed in Fiji since the ’60s.

Fiji music greats such as Victor Rounds, Henry Foon, Tom Mawi, Jimi Nathu, Nez Hazelman, Sam & Annie Mawi, Eni Kumar, Joe Heritage and Ditui Abariga are being billed to perform at the event.

Dragon Music owner and music icon Ken Janson says he’s more excited than the rest and is looking forward to seeing his old friends he’s played with in the past and who now reside overseas.

“I am very lucky to have met and performed with many famous musicians during my lifetime here in Fiji,” Janson said.

“As you can see the nightclub is no longer there, but we have done renovations and have turned it into a music shop.”

Janson said many artists who had performed at the nightclub now live in Australia, New Zealand, Egypt and the USA.

“And we have, unfortunately, lost a few of our good friends along the way as well.

“So, this night is a night of celebration, a night to salute the good musicians we have lost and a night to celebrate those who are still with us.

“This reunion will be one of a kind and it will definitely be a nostalgic trip down memory lane.”
