Job allows her to contribute to the family
ADI Mataicakau Tawake thoroughly enjoys her work as an eyelash technician. She has reaped many benefits from doing what she loves.
Hailing from Somosomo, Gau in Lomaiviti with maternal links to Ravitaki, Kadavu, she is one of the familiar faces at the Lagoon Hair and Beauty Salon in Nausori.
The 20-year old started working at the salon 10 months ago and does not regret the decision as she loves to make her clients look their best.
Her job involves beautifying and applying treatment on eyelashes.
The job involves applying readymade eyelashes to natural ones.
She said there are a wide range of eyelashes to choose from, tailored to cater for all needs and looks which they are able to successfully apply for their clients.
Her initial hope was to be a hairdresser, but Adi was then introduced to being a lash technician through an aunt who dropped into the salon.
At the time, the salon was offering to train interested individuals in becoming beauticians.
From then till todate, all has been falling into place for Adi after learning the skills needed to become a lash technician.
She said being able to beautify a client, was always a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Adi said it made her happy, to see her clients satisfied while making them feel great and confident about their looks.
Adi is the eldest child in her family, so her job has also allowed her to contribute financially and help support those within her household.
She shared pleasant sentiments, aboout having the ability to support her family with their needs and wants.
“I can also provide for my own needs now,” she said.
She urges young women to join the beautician industry as they will enjoy being able to beautify their clients while earning a living.
Being a lash technician is a great job, and an experience of its own, she said.
She shared that the frequent number of clients coming in for appointments, was an added bonus to her job as this meant earning more money.
