Road to recovery

-

WHEN someone is seriously ill, it can sometimes take ages for them to recover from their ordeal. And recovery can also involve a slow and sometimes painful rehabilitation program to get them back on their feet to some semblance of normalcy and wellbeing.

But it can take months, even years in some cases, for the seriously injured or someone suffering from a severe illness to fully recover without needing anyone else’s assistance.

Fiji has had four orchestrated “illnesses” coupled with the pandemic and a series of natural disasters to contend with — all in a relatively short space of time.

The country has taken massive hits on so many fronts because of people’s lack of faith in the system of governance and of course natural disasters have added to the mayhem.

The effects of these events have been crippling in so many different areas including affecting people on a very personal level that it’s almost impossible to quantify.

Getting the country and people back on their feet can be a slow painstaking process requiring time, patience and good leadership. And while it’s a painstaking process, there can also be setbacks along the road to recovery.

There are some who are of the opinion that nothing much is getting done by the Coalition Government simply because they want everything to happen quickly and now. While that is quite understandable the reality is, it ain’t gonna happen any time soon. And definitely not in the timeframe some would like and expect.

Repairing a severely ruptured and broken down economy that’s left the country in a mountain of ruinous rubble as a result of the devastating impact of five serious “bombs”, will take a massive economic rebuild and infrastructure rehab program.

So more the reason to settle down, buckle up and enjoy the ride to recovery.

Because it will definitely get rocky even before you can get yourselves close to getting the country back into shape so you can hit the road running in the fast lane of economic wellbeing.
