$10k for cancer

- By ELENA VUCUKULA

IN a bid to help cancer patients in Fiji, Wananavu Group of Companies Ltd has given funds to WOWS Kids Fiji and Fiji Cancer Society.

During the handover last Thursday, the group gave $5000 each to WOWS Kids Fiji and Fiji Cancer Society.

Company managing director Vijay Parmandam said it was an honour to financially assist both organisations.

“This is the first time for the Wananavu Group of Companies to donate towards cancer care and support in Fiji,” he said.

“We hope that the donation of $5000 to WOWS Kids and $5000 to Fiji Cancer Society will help both organisations meet their obligations to the cancer patients in Fiji. And also hope that other companies will come on board to support this worthy cause.”

Meanwhile, WOWS Kids team leader Mere Williams expressed her gratitude on behalf of both organisations.

“We are always appreciative of generous donations as such from the business community as both organisations rely heavily on donations to sustain ourselves and most importantly to ensure that cancer patients are receiving the support and services they require to improve their quality of life,” she said.

“For WOWS Kids, we hope that many more Western-based organisations will come on board this year to help support our cause.

“We are currently supporting 74 children in Fiji and out of that, 29 are Western based.”

Ms William said on average, 20 children lost their lives annually to the deadly disease.

“That is an alarming reality for a small nation like Fiji.

“Since January this year, we have lost five children already.

“Generous donations like this from Wananavu Group will certainly make a huge impact on the quality of life of our children.

“Like Fiji Cancer Society, cash donations we receive go towards transportation for our patients from home to hospital and return, medications and drugs that are not available in our public hospitals, palliative care for our patients and many more services including the support we provide our Oncology Units at CWM Hospital and Aspen Lautoka Hospital. We thank Wananavu Group of Companies for their generosity.”
