Take care of the earth

GlOBAL Recycling Day (GRD) is an annual event celebrated on March 18. With the international theme of #RecyclingHeroes, it aims to commemorate or acknowledge the plans and actions carried out by communities with recycling.

The Earthreminder website said recycling acts as a special resource that helps us fight climate change. Our world has been very hot, showing that we need to work together to protect our environment.

The website said the event aims to thank those who recycle a lot and encourage others to share stories of local heroes who help recycle in their areas.

According to the Awarenessdays. com website, this event is also created to strengthen awareness on the benefits and importance of recycling.

Such an event will ensure that awareness is further strengthened while also getting people to decrease the level of waste in communities.

This also ensures individuals get to know more about protecting their natural surroundings or environment.

GRD unites social groups and communities in different parts of the world by educating them on ways in enforcing sustainable measures or practices.

Lastly, it also stresses the benefits and importance of recycling. Locally, Tourism Fiji and the Pacific Recycling Foundation have further strengthened their partnership in promoting and leading the way in the sustainable practice of waste management and especially for recycling.

"As Fiji emerges as a premier destination, known for its pristine and untouched nature, our commitment lies in ensuring that growth aligns with sustainability. Our mission is to showcase Fiji's natural beauty, culture, and authenticity, while actively addressing crucial issues such as climate change inclusively," said Tourism Fiji's, chief operating officer, Leigh Howard.

"One of the key objectives together with Pacific Recycling Foundation is to roll out several I-Recycle Hub sites across Wailoaloa, Natadola, and several hotels within our industry. This initiative stemmed from a call to action by Rosie Holidays during the National Convention forum held last month (January) and we are thankful for their support as well."

Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) founder, Amitesh Deo expressed his sincerest thanks to Tourism Fiji for their assistance in boosting sustainable waste management practices.

According to PRF, there will be around 1000 stakeholders and champions of environmental issues and recycling who will feature at this annual event.

Cyahogarecycles.org also shared easy and simple steps of reusing and recycles items at home Repurpose glass, plastic and

cardboard containers

One of the best uses for empty plastic soda bottles is as a planter for flowers and herbs. Take an empty 2-litre pop bottle and cut off the top two thirds, leaving the bottle's bottom third

Designate a kitchen drawer for

plastic bags

Often times people will use plastic shopping bags once and throw them away. Instead, designate a drawer in your kitchen where you store plastic bags so that they can be reused. That small bag that carried your milk and bread home from the grocery store can be used as a liner for the bathroom wastebasket or as a tool for cooking.

Reuse your home delivered

newspaper and

If you're one of the few people who still gets a print newspaper delivered to your home, be aware that there are several ways to reuse that newspapers once you (and the rest of your family) have read it.

You can use it as packing paper for fragile china, wrapping paper for gifts or as a cleaning aid

Convert old sheets, towels and

clothing into wash rags

Old textiles such as sheets, towels and cotton shirts can easily be turned into wash rags with a good pair of scissors.
