MGM prepares for tour to Japan

- By MELI LADDPETER

MAHATMA Gandhi Memorial Secondary School’s Under-18 will be heading to Japan in May to compete in the Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament.

This is the same side that created history last year after winning the Vodafone Deans Trophy and the Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Rugby League competition in the under-17 grade.

Team manager Hotash Padarath said all players in the side have confirmed their place in the final squad for the tour.

“However, we only have a few players who have niggling injuries so we will have to wait and see until then if they are able to go,” he said.

“Other than that, all players are confirmed to be travelling to Japan. And yes, this is the same squad from last year.”

He says this tour will certainly help with the development of the squad as the Vodafone Deans trophy competition edges closer.

“This will give our boys the exposure they need, and it will also be a good team bonding activity for our players.”

The side will be playing a total of six matches during their tour.

The side has already begun preparations since late last year, as they will be looking to make their presence felt at the upcoming Deans competition.

“We know that big schools will be coming out for us, but we are looking forward to the competition and we cannot wait.

“Looking at this Japanese tour, our target is to get as much exposure as we can get to develop our players for the deans competition.”
