A MAN has been caught on camera taking a daring leap off the fifth storey of a Gold Coast balcony after police received reports of a “disturbance”.

Video footage captured by shocked onlookers shows the man dangling from a balcony at the Canopy unit complex in Palm Beach shortly before 11am on Sunday.

The video zooms in and shows an officer appearing to try and speak with the man.

“He can’t climb back up,” a person can be heard saying in the video as they watched the drama unfold.

Vision obtained by 9News captured the heart-stopping the moment the man let go of the balcony and jumps into a swimming pool below.

It is understood the man hit the pool, climbed out and ran out of building complex dripping in his wet clothes, before escaping through a neighbouring property.

Queensland Police confirmed they attended the scene following reports the man was throwing items from the balcony.

“Around 10.40am on March 17 police were called to Palm Beach after reports of a disturbance at a 5th floor unit,” a statement read.

“On arrival at the Twenty Fourth Avenue address police attempted to speak to a 30-year-old man who was throwing furniture out of the unit.

“Police located the man uninjured at a different residence. The man then climbed over the balcony and jumped into a pool before fleeing the scene.”

Queensland Police said no complaint has been received in relation to the matter, but investigations remain ongoing.

Neighbour Seth Mitchell told 9News the man ran through his backyard as he fled authorities.
