Nursery rhymes treat for children

- By TEMALESI VONO

MATT Young of the Circus Carnival Cabaret is in town and will be bringing life and fun to childhood nursery rhymes, songs, and circus stories at the 2024 Fiji Fringe Festival, scheduled for Saturday, March 16 to 23.

Excited and looking forward to the event, Young has a number of performances lined up for all age groups, including featured guests who will be joining him on stage.

“I’m pretty excited,” Young said. “There are a lot of words to memorise like Dr Dolittle’s Talk to the Animals and Baby Mine from Dumbo.

“I’ll also be doing a song called Lydia, The Tattooed Lady.

“These are all quick songs, lots of words, and lots of opportunities for me to trip up on my words.”

Young is a trained singer and dancer and has toured the world performing in Broadway shows.

“You will be expecting a whole of interesting things happening on stage,” he said.

“These shows I will be performing this weekend are very silly.

“I play sort of like the ringmaster who’s a bit of a clown and it’s a circus tradition to bring someone from the audience as the clown to interact with that person.

“So, I’ve asked a few friends, Ateca Ravuvu from Moana Loa, who is going to be my guest on opening night, and Skillz FJ from Rako Pasifika who is going to be with me on the second night.

“And right now I am in talks with Alby Eastgate to do a number with me on one of the other nights.”

Young has been doing musical theatre for more than 30 years and will be performing with other artistes such as Drix, Etta Gonerogo, Yanu Boyz and Sweet Sensation.
