Prioritise safety, Byrne tells fans

SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Mick Byrne stresses the importance of fan safety amidst weather concerns.

With the weather office forecasting heavy rain and flood warnings across the entire Fiji Group this week, Byrne has emphasised the importance of fan safety.

While expressing their desire to see fans turn out in large numbers to support them at Churchill Park, Byrne urged supporters to prioritise their safety given the current weather conditions.

In a heartfelt address to the fans, Byrne emphasised on safety as supporters prepared to travel for the team’s home games.

“We all know the weather’s not being great here. We understand our fans, we want our fans to travel in and you know, we really look forward to our home games. But the big one is for them to stay safe.

“We all want to get there and watch the game and make sure you stay safe, the boys are really looking forward to seeing a big crowd on Saturday and with the best fans in the world, you know when they turn up, they certainly give everything they can and we’re looking forward to playing and performing in front of them,” Byrne said.

Despite the adverse weather, Byrne has outlined plans to remain focused.

“We’ve got some strategies around how we think we can do that. But I think the biggest one for us is to get back and sit and ask plenty of questions.

“We’ve worked hard in that area.” He commended the squad’s dedication and noted promising signs of improvement.

“We just need to stay alive for any little opportunities that present themselves for us, but also any little plays. We just stay alert for that and be a clever team.

“So, we just need to be mentally switched on for that 80 minutes and I’m sure the way we’ve trained we’ll be ready for that. So, I think we just got to bring our game on Saturday, which we try and do every week. And we bring that and with our physicality, I think we’ll be in for a good game,” he said.
