Vision for a balanced tourism industry
NANUKU Resort Fiji general manager Tomasi Turukawa said his vision of the country’s tourism industry was one that balanced economic growth with environmental stewardship, cultural authenticity, and social responsibility.
He said by embracing sustainability, innovation, inclusivity, and resilience, Fiji could continue to thrive as a world-class tourism destination while preserving its natural beauty and cultural heritage for future generations to enjoy.
Mr Turukawa was recently appointed to the GM role and has been conducting a comprehensive assessment of the resort’s current operations and financial performance.
He said he anticipated challenges in this role, and among those were staff retention, operational efficiency, sustainability and adapting to external factors.
Mr Turukawa said they would prioritise staff well-being by fostering a positive work culture, opportunities, professional development and rewarding exceptional performance to maintain high staff retention.
He said they would thoroughly review existing operational processes and systems to identify areas for improvement.
“External factors such as economic fluctuations, political instability, and public health crises can impact the hospitality industry. We will maintain flexibility and agility in our operations, closely monitor external trends and developments, and develop contingency plans to mitigate risks and adapt to changing circumstances effectively,” Mr Turukawa told The Fiji Times.
Mr Turukawa said the resort would also implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy to cover initiatives such as waste reduction, energy conservation, and community engagement.
