Action plan for women
THE Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection is currently developing the Women’s Economic Employment National Action Plan (WEENAP) 2024-2029 which was endorsed by Cabinet in February.
This was revealed by Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection permanent secretary Eseta Nadakuitavuki during her address at the Women Invigorating the Nation (WIN) convention at the Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) yesterday.
“… (this) has been endorsed in Cabinet last month and it’s the first-ever Fiji Women’s Economic Empowerment National Action Plan. To us this marked the commencement of its development starting in March 2024,” Ms Nadakuitavuki said.
“We hope to launch as soon as we are ready. Women’s economic empowerment means levelling the playing field for all women and girls to have greater access to and control over economic opportunities.
“It’s about gaining access to resources, to information, to decent work and bodily autonomy. It also means having a stronger voice and real influence in economic decisions, whether at home or in institutions.”
Ms Nadakuitavuki said the action plan had the potential to act as a roadmap for translating national policy measures into tangible results for women in Fiji.
Also making reference to WEENAP, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya said it was expected to encompass several critical areas, “including establishing a clear definition of women’s economic empowerment and fostering women’s entrepreneurship through a gender-responsive environment to increase investment in women-led businesses.”
