NAIL technicians offer a range of cosmetic treatments for clients’ nails. This includes applying, repairing and removing artificial nails (nail technology) and decorating them (nail art)

These skills have helped Siteri Bera, a nail technician at the Lagoon Hair and Beauty Salon in Nausori provide for her family.

Hailing from Gau, Lomaiviti and having maternal links to Muani Kadavu, the mother of three first started her journey in this career around eight years ago and everything has been going great for her so far.

She first came across a post on social media by a nail art outlet in Suva looking to recruit and train interested individuals. She was one of those who underwent the training in Suva but now works in the branch in Nausori.

Professional Nails trained them with relevant lessons and skills, which has benefited Siteri through the eight years she has worked as a nail tech.

She said she was grateful for the opportunity which has allowed her to grow and to earn a living.

Siteri who lives in Nausori says the convenience of living near her work place also reduces travelling expenses.

The mother of three whose children are in primary and secondary schools respectively says her wages allows her to provide and carry out her duty as a mother.

She has been working in Lagoon Hair and Beauty Salon and encourages school leavers and young women to consider being a nail technician.

Ms Bera says she had other plans growing up but is grateful to work as a nail tech.

“The experience of being involved in the nail art industry has been an interesting journey.”

While having to deal with clients with a wide range of likes and preferences, she said the job requires extreme patience. “I have been in the field for eight years, and it has been fun and interesting,” she said.

She said it has been interesting to see the different reactions and ideas from clients. She came across different clients and some were fussy or impolite.

Over the years, she said the best way to get through all situations was to be patient and to allow clients to share their thoughts and reviews effectively.
