Loss upsets Rauluni

- By ANASILINI NATOGA

THE Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s head coach, Mosese Rauluni, expressed disappointment after their 21-62 defeat to the Waratahs at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

Rauluni said the team lacked energy and commitment against Waratahs, admitting the visitors outplayed them in all aspects.

He pointed out the slow start and the team’s inability to maintain momentum as key areas that needed to be addressed.

“I’m very disappointed. “I thought the girls left everything off the field and didn’t take anything on the field. There was no energy, Waratahs outplayed us in all aspects of the game, they were more committed to the game then we were.

“We started very slow and it took us a while to get into the game and when we started to get into the game, we would lose it again by a silly play or penalty, so we’re going to get better at that,” Rauluni said.

Rauluni is adamant they still have time to improve and for now their focus is to fix mistakes before their game against the Western Force next week.

“We were positive going into this game.

“But you know, we just played a better team. That was faster. Their break down and defence, they were good. They had a good attacking urgency that we didn’t have. We’ve got to pick that up for next week,” Rauluni said.

Meanwhile, Waratahs head coach Mike Ruthven was proud of his girl’s performance.

“I’m just proud of our girls today, challenging conditions just around the heat but I thought the girls managed that well.

“We controlled collision and were able to control momentum and tempo of the game, I thought we played some good footy so proud of our team.

“It was an amazing experience and, you know, certainly one that they’ll remember,” Ruthven said.
