Comfortable being uncomfortable
Women embrace unfamiliar challenge
WOMEN need to be comfortable with the uncomfortable and push out of their comfort zones.
This was Women Entrepreneurs Business Council (WEBC) and Women Invigorating the Nation (WIN) committee chairperson Sharyne Fong key message from the two-day WIN convention at the Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) that ended on Saturday.
She said most women had been looking forward to the two-day event which attracted 220 women, despite the targeted number being 200.
“First of all, we got to stand up, speak up, show up, and just have the courage to do it.
“One of the key takeaways from here is that we have to be comfortable with the uncomfortable and keep pushing ourselves, and as women, if we see a potential in another woman, lift her up,” Ms Fong said.
“There were a lot of recommendations and outcomes that came up, and we’re waiting for a rapporteur which will come out, I think, in three weeks’ time.
“And from that, we are looking at how we can encourage more women into taking up roles in male-dominated fields.
“As you know, we had a session on that.
“Reality check on family health conversations, from childbirth through to even suffering from depression, and lupus to outcomes like how we can advance more women in leadership roles.”
She said the different themes of discussion during the event allowed for healthy conversations surrounding women and the issues they face in whatever sector they are in.
“Those themes were actually discussions on how to reframe the advancement of women from ageism through to even retirement and how we engage more women and have that intergenerational mix, so we can all come together and support one another.
“I think we can do that by supporting one another as women.”
Ms Fong alluded that the committee had big plans for the 2025 WIN Convention, which will take place in March 29, 2025, and this included the possibility of having the Green Star Awards for women who inculcate green business practices and sustainable practices in their businesses.
