NDP will capture our collective vision for the future: Minister Lalabalavu
“THE new National Development Plan will capture our collective vision and aspirations for the future, and set key initiatives and strategies that will allow the nation to grow sustainably in the many years ahead of us.”
This was highlighted by the Minster for Health and Medical Services, Dr Atonio Lalabalavu while speaking on the motion on the address by the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, during the opening the 2024 Session of Parliament.
“As alluded to by His Excellency the President, the key fundamental of the Government’s development agenda is inclusive development to improve the wellbeing of all our citizens.”
Minister Lalabalavu added the NDP was anticipated to be finalised by June this year, before the budget announcement.
“His Excellency the President highlighted the commitment of the Ministry of Health and
Medical Services to address the significant challenges posed by the increasing burden of Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases in our population.”
“Non-communicable diseases (NCD) continue to be the main disease burden for our people contributing to 80 per cent of all deaths in the country and 40 per cent of premature death.”
Minister Lalabalavu said the healthy habits to reduce NCDs in Fiji do not start inside the hospitals and nursing stations, they start and are nurtured in homes, schools, villages, work places, offices, and also in the deliberations of Parliament.
“The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is finalising its Wellness and NCD Strategy with the help of our partners, which will guide our effort in addressing NCD in Fiji.”
Minister Lalabavu said the NCD crisis we have will require all our collective effort and determination to control and stop.
