Teams push to the limit
TWO organisations competing in the Simple Green Business House Regatta – West Series say they are pushing their teams to the limit.
Aspen Medical and Centrecom Fiji said when they decided to take on the challenge, they knew the West Series was not just fun and games.
Both organisations shared they were proud of their respective journeys.
ASPENWAY: “THE LIGHTNING BEFORE THE THUNDER”
Since training began in February this year, the Aspen Medical team has had their sights firmly set on the prize.
Preparation for the West Series involved a “careful team selection” following an assessment on and off the water.
Sharon Dipitika explained the company’s interest in the regatta extends beyond April.
“The Aspen Medical Rowing Club’s interest in the competition stems from several factors, including the opportunity to explore new avenues, the team’s excitement to participate in this competition and the sport’s contribution to fostering teamwork and fitness to help combat noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).”
She revealed rigorous training sessions not only exposed the team’s weaknesses but also brought about an improved team performance.
Vuda proved to be a tricky training ground as Aspen Medical encountered occasional afternoon showers with unexpected high waves at times.
“We’ve grown and we’re meeting the challenges with enthusiasm from communications to technique which is essential to the overall success of our participation,” she said.
“Our superhero alter ego coming into the regatta is ‘Aspenway’, trust and believe we’re bringing the thunder!”
CENTRECOM FIJI: EMBRACING TEAMWORK AND LEADERSHIP
Centrecom Fiji, a company renowned for its strong work-life balance culture, has renewed its commitment to team work and leadership development by participating in the Simple Green Business House Regatta - West Series.
Peterina Hughes says the company’s engagement in the West Series reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen relationships both internally and externally.
“We have a proud worklife balance culture at Centrecom Fiji that brings together a strong relationship both at home and the work space. We encourage outdoor team-building activities because we’ve seen that it can lead to outside of the box thinking while also practising teamwork and leadership skills.”
She said the experience was helping shape the team’s approach to collaboration and management.
“Active listening has been key across the team and it’s providing us with a great opportunity to improve as well as enhance teamwork and leadership skills.”
Hughes added the regatta is offering its employees a unique outlet for physical activity, stress relief and team bonding outside of the working environment, enriching both personal and professional growth.
