Rugby dream becomes a reality for Nasova

- By MELI LADDPETER

CHILDHOOD dreams of donning the white jumper have finally become a reality for 23-year-old Joji Nasova who was named in Osea Kolinisau’s national 7s side for the upcoming Hong Kong 7s tournament.

As he looks to make his debut for the side next weekend, Nasova says all his hard work and sacrifices over the past few years have finally paid off.

“Being part of the team has always been a dream of mine ever since I was a kid watching them play on television,” he said.

His rugby journey started when he was only nine years old, playing rugby through primary and secondary school years.

The Ba lad featured for the national team at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands last year where he helped the side win gold along the women’s 7s team.

He was also part of the Dominion Brothers

side which featured in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament where he caught the attention of Fiji Airways Men’s 7s head coach.

“There’s been a lot of challenges along the way, but I am thankful to God that everything worked out fine.”

Nasova vows to give his best for the country and is looking forward to his first tournament with the national side.

“To be playing at probably the biggest 7s tournament in the series is a huge blessing and I promise to give my best.”

Meanwhile, Kolinisau says he has been impressed with Nasova’s explosive performance during training and while competing on the field.

“He reminds me of Savenaca Rawaca in his build and the way he plays, he’s just explosive in his attacks and that’s something I like about him,” Kolinisau said.

“He’s been with us in camp for some time and he has proven himself over and over, especially in the Marist 7s last weekend.”
