Fijiana looking to lift form in HK

- By MELI LADDPETER

FIJI Airways Fijiana head coach Saiasi Fuli says his side will be looking for redemption at the upcoming Hong Kong 7s after a poor outing at the Vancouver and Las Vegas 7s tournament last month.

Despite having not won a single tournament for the 2024 season, Fuli is adamant his side has what it takes to qualify for the Madrid 7s tournament and the Olympics.

“Everyone is vying for the seventh and sixth spot in the table standings to qualify for Madrid and the Olympics.

“We are looking forward to Hong Kong because we want to come out strong after our performance at Las Vegas,” he said.

Fuli will be naming his 13-member squad for Hong Kong later today before the tournament gets started next weekend.

“We’ve been training for the past two weeks, and the girls have been holding up well.”

The side competed at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s under the name “Mount Masada” where they were crowned winners in the women’s division.

“The Marist 7s gave us much-needed game time before Hong Kong, and I was happy with how the girls performed.

“The tournament allowed us to gauge our performance and see where we stand before flying out.

“One of the main lessons was having a strong mentality despite the situation on the field.”

Looking at their pool for Hong Kong, Fuli said they knew what to expect and would need to enter the tournament better prepared than last time.

“We’ve been pooled with Australia and Ireland in Pool B, so we know what to expect from these two teams. All we have to do is train and prepare well before heading into battle.”
