Aim on 7s lost glory

- By MELI LADDPETER

WITH the HSBC Hong Kong 7s tournament set to kick start next weekend, Fiji Airways Men’s 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau said he was eager to restore the side to their former glory.

“We want to bring our national 7s side back to their winning ways,” he said. The side underwent a training session at the high performance unit gym in Suva yesterday, where the former skipper said their main target was fitness.

“Training has been coming along well, we’re in our third week of camp and we have been working on our fitness and today we are at the gym.”

While acknowledging the expectations from the fans and supporters of the side, Kolinisau said he was adamant about bringing out the best in his players in Hong Kong.

“Most of these boys competed at the Marist 7s tournament last weekend where they proved themselves and we are all looking forward to Hong Kong.”

After naming his side on Tuesday evening, Kolinisau said he spoke to national reps who were not selected in his side for Hong Kong where he gave words of encouragement for the next leg of the series.

“There were some players who were not selected for Hong Kong, and I had a one-on-one conversation with them, just encouraging them for the next selection for Singapore.”

He also spoke to a handful of players who caught his eyes during the Marist 7s and said he would bring them into camp after Hong Kong to have a shot at selections for Singapore.

“Yes, there is a lot of talent, and I spoke to some boys who played at the Marist 7s where I told them I wanted them in camp after Hong Kong where they will have a shot at Singapore.”
