Kavita learns from managing market kiosk
THE chance of being able to manage a kiosk has been a worthwhile experience for Kavita Devi.
Hailing from Rakiraki while growing up in Suva, she is one of the few friendly faces at one of the kiosks at the Laqere Market.
Kavita is no stranger to managing microbusinesses as her family runs a canteen from the comfort of their home in Makoi.
She has been managing the kiosk for the past few weeks as the owner is overseas.
Best priced variety shop offers a wide range of affordable treats and daily necessities such as toiletries and many more.
She says while sales and business needs varied daily, the kiosk still manages to operate successfully.
The kiosk is owned by a family friend and through this she has been learning a lot about being an entrepreneur in a place like the market.
One of the things she has learned is to sell products according to the needs of the customers.
Considering the location they were based in, the kiosk offers a wide range of goods that those passing through and vendors at the Laqere Market needed and could buy.
She says convenience and affordability were aspects to consider in a kiosk at the market.
Kavita says her family also runs a canteen at home, and this experience has helped her gain the knowledge to go about managing the kiosk at the market.
She said so far it has been a learning and enriching experience and opportunity from the owner of the microbusiness.
Kavita said while she also has school and work, these skills she was acquiring would help her in the long run and one day she may be motivated to start a business of her own.
She offered timely advice encouraging youths to follow their hopes and dreams. “If you are capable of doing anything, you must motivate yourself to do it,” she said.
Kavita said she was motivated by her family friend and this opportunity has been worthwhile for her.
