Éditorial.
Dans notre numéro de février dernier (1), nous faisions écho au programme Fieldwork Marfa, une utopie portée dans le monde réel par l’École des beaux-arts de Nantes. Depuis près de cinq ans, des artistes et des étudiants sont accueillis à Marfa. Ils sont installés sur un terrain acquis pour l’école dans le désert, à côté de la ville texane que Donald Judd a prise pour laboratoire. Ce cahier est en quelque sorte la suite du dialogue toujours en cours que nous avons commencé avec l’École des beaux-arts de Nantes à propos de Fieldwork Marfa. Publié au moment de l’inauguration du nouveau bâtiment de l’école construit sur l’Île de Nantes dans les anciennes halles Alstom, il fait le point sur le renouvellement du projet pédagogique qui y sera mis en oeuvre, et sur son positionnement comme plateforme reliée à différents campus dans la région et autour du monde, à Nantes et à Saint-Nazaire, à Marfa et à Houston, à Séoul et à Suncheon, à Dakar et à Rufisque, afin d’offrir aux étudiants des conditions de travail diverses, dans des grandes villes et dans des lieux plus isolés. In our February issue this year,(1) we talked about the Fieldwork Marfa program, a utopian initiative carried out by the École des Beaux-arts de Nantes. For nearly five years now, artists and students have been welcomed to the land acquired by the school in the desert near the Texan town where Donald Judd created his foundation and set up his laboratory. This section is in a sense a continuation of the dialogue we started with the school over Fieldwork Marfa. It is being published to coincide with the inauguration of the school’s new building on the Île de Nantes, housed in the old Alstom sheds, and looks at the planned modernization of teaching at Nantes and the school’s links as a platform with campuses in the region and around the world, whether in Nantes and Saint-Nazaire, Marfa and Houston, Seoul and Suncheon, or Dakar and Rufisque, in order to offer students a wide variety of working conditions, both in big cities and in more isolated spots.
Il y a de nombreux défis pour les écoles françaises des beaux-arts, de design et de communication. Accueillir plus d'étudiants français, européens et du monde ! Diversifier profondément les profils de nos recrues ! Organiser des passerelles et des terrains de braconnages disciplinaires ! Participer avec une vision ambitieuse à la requalification des territoires ! Éclairer les grands enjeux de nos mondes ! Inviter les nouveaux amoureux de l'art à le pratiquer ensemble ! Faire aimer à tous les mots art et jeunesse ! Nous sommes tous mobilisés pour ces chantiers et les choses changent partout. Nantes, sa métropole et son estuaire, célébré fièrement par Saint-Nazaire, ne cessent de s’activer pour que nous soyons toujours en mouvement. L'art doit s'appuyer sur l'État qui garantit sa liberté, il doit croire en son territoire qui porte son développement et son rayonnement. Un nouveau musée d'arts pour Nantes ! Une nouvelle école des beaux-arts Nantes Saint-Nazaire ! Des nouveaux ateliers pour les artistes ! Fierté d'être au service d'élu(e)s éclairé(e)s.

Nantes, its metropolis and its estuary, proudly celebrated by Saint Nazaire, are constantly active, there to keep us permanently on the move. Art must be able to count on the state, which is the guarantor of its freedom, it must believe in its territory, which supports its development and its influence. A new museum for Nantes! A new art school, Nantes Saint Nazaire! New ateliers for the students! The pride of serving enlightened elected representatives.
