Titre de notre précédent édito :« À qui le tour ? » Pas une journée qui n’apporte, via une grande presse friande, son lot de porcs à conduire à l’abattoir. La liste connaissant un développement exponentiel, il est un porc qui a peut-être échappé à l’attention de nos lecteurs. Pas n’importe quel porc : Elie Wiesel. Dans l’ivresse de l’hallali, on ne se contente plus d’exécuter sans jugement des vivants, on déterre les morts, les tue une seconde fois afin de s’assurer de leur anéantissement définitif. Dans Newsweek, 23 octobre 2017, ce titre : « Woman claims Elie Wiesel sexually assaulted her (1). » C’était il y a trente ans. La vie de Jenny Listman, la victime d’Elie Wiesel, en a été détruite : dépression suicidaire, crises de panique pendant dix-huit ans, tous ses repères effondrés. Les faits ? Lors d’une photographie de groupe prise à l’occasion d’un gala de charité, Elie Wiesel a posé sa main sur l’épaule de la jeune femme, la main a glissé le long de son dos et atteint la fesse qu’elle a pressée. « He grapped my ass » (il m’a mis la main au cul). L’accusatrice étant juive, est-ce suffisant pour que soit rassuré l’ami écrivain qui me faisait part de son trouble en constatant qu’un grand nombre de porcs dénoncés aux États-Unis, dans le cinéma et le show-biz notamment, étaient d’origine juive. Hasard ? C’est probable. Rappelons néanmoins que les Juifs ont été fréquemment assimilés à des porcs, dans le monde islamique et par les SS dans les camps d’extermination, et que, avant l’actuelle vague de « dénonciations », celle qui a connu au cours du siècle passé une pareille ampleur visait les Juifs pendant l’Occupation. Venons-en à Céline, la transition n’étant pas sans lien avec ce qui précède. L’annonce par Gallimard de la publication en Pléiade des « pamphlets » nous vaut la prévisible réaction de Serge Klarsfeld et de la Licra : interdire le volume. Ce qui est plus inattendu, c’est la réaction de l’actuel gouvernement (soi-disant libéral), qui, via un bidule de son invention, la Dilcrah (lisez la Délégation Interministérielle à la Lutte contre le Racisme et l’Antisémitisme, et la Haine LGBT), somme l’éditeur de l’informer des conditions de publication de ce volume Céline. Mauvais rêve : ne serions-nous pas revenus à l’Ancien Régime et sa pratique de la censure préalable (reprise par les régimes totalitaires, communistes, ou islamiques comme l’Iran) ? Il est surprenant, par ailleurs, comme l’a noté le biographe de Céline, François Gibault, que la Licra et Serge Klarsfeld n’aient pas demandé leur interdiction quand furent publiés les Décombres de Lucien Rebatet, la correspondance Chardonne-Morand, et quand fut annoncée la publication de Mein Kampf, ouvrages qui en matière d’antisémitisme… Dans quel monde vivent-ils, Serge Klarsfeld et les responsables de la Licra ? Hier : massacre d’enfants juifs par Mérah, tueries de l’hypercasher ; aujourd’hui, familles juives harcelées, insultées, menacées, contraintes de fuir les quartiers, les banlieues, les villes où elles vivaient. Croient-ils vraiment, ces censeurs, que c’est dans un volume de la Pléiade (nourri, comme ils le sont tous, d’un abondant appareil critique – rassurons un craintif peloton d’universitaires qui semble l’ignorer) que les aspirants au djihad vont nourrir leur haine des Juifs ? Ils seraient mieux inspirés de porter leur attention vers les nombreuses librairies noyautées par les islamistes où est en vente libre depuis longtemps une littérature violemment antisémite. Quelles actions ont-ils menées, eux et nos dirigeants politiques, pour y mettre fin ? Oui, le ventre est encore prolifique d’où a surgi la bête immonde. Encore fautil savoir qui le nourrit et le féconde aujourd’hui.

In our previous editorial we asked who would be next. Every day brings a new truckload of sacrificial swine, driven by the appetite of the media for France’s version of the #metoo movement, #balancetonporc (expose your pig). Given the exponential lengthening of the list, there is one pig whom our readers may not have noticed. A serious porker, this: Elie Wiesel. Yes, the thrill of the kill is now being extended to the already-dead, who get dug up and reburied in unhallowed ground. In the October 23, 2017 issue of Newsweek, 2017, we find this headline: “Woman claims Elie Wiesel sexually assaulted her.”(1) It happened thirty years ago, and the life of Wiesel’s assaultee, Jennifer Listman, was ravaged: suicidal depression, panic attacks, total doubt. And what happened? When they were posing for a group photo at a fundraising dinner, Wiesel placed his hand on the young woman’s back, slid it down slowly, and squeezed her buttocks: “He grabbed my ass.” Might the fact that the accuser is Jewish be enough to reassure a writer friend of mine who told me he felt uneasy that so many of the “pigs” being denounced in the U.S., and particularly in the movies and showbiz, are of Jewish origin? A coincidence? Likely. Still, there’s no harm in recalling that Jews have often been compared to swine, whether in the Islamic world or by SS in the death camps, and that before the current wave of “denunciations,” there was a similarly powerful wave aimed at Jews during the Occupation. And so to Céline, and not without connection. News that the writer’s “pamphlets” are being published in the prestigious Pléiade collection has met with predictable reactions from Serge Klarsfeld and LICRA (the International League against Racism and Anti-Semitism): ban the book. More surprising is the reaction of the current, purportedly liberal government, which, acting via its newfangled “Interministerial Delegation for the Struggle against Racism and Anti-Semitism and LGBT Hatred,” has demanded that the publisher inform it of the conditions in which this Céline volume is being released. This is a bad dream. Have we come back to the Ancien Regime and its practice of preliminary censorship (later adopted by totalitarian regimes, from communists to today’s Iran)? It is surprising, too, as Céline’s biographer François Gibault has noted, that LICRA and Serge Klarsfeld didn’t also call for the banning of Les Décombres de Lucien Rebatet, the correspondence between Chardonne and Morand, and Mein Kampf, all of which are unabashed in their anti-Semitism. What world are they living in, Serge Klarsfeld and the people at LICRA? Yesterday, Merah massacred Jewish children, others killed customers at a kosher supermarket in Paris; today, Jewish families are being harassed, insulted, threatened and forced to leave the areas they live in. Do these censors really think that wannabe jihadists need a volume of the Pléiade to nourish their hatred of the Jews (and anxious academics who seem unaware of the fact should take note that these volumes come with extensive critical notes)? Their energy would be better employed in dealing with the many bookshops controlled by Islamists which sell literature that is truly antiSemitic. What have they done, what has our government done to put an end to this? Yes, the belly from which that vile beast crawled is still fertile. Which is why we need to know what it is that is really nourishing it in today’s world.
