SABLÉ-SUR-SARTHE
Isabelle Levenez
L’Entracte / 15 janvier - 8 mars 2015
Véronique Pittolo Some exhibitions are organized around a theme, a medium or narration. Others have the virtue, or the charm, of plunging visitors into a particular atmosphere. That’s the case with Claude Lévêque, Anish Kapoor and Isabelle Levenez, especially in this show where her work is anchored in numerous media—sound, video, drawing and installation. Instead of unfolding around a theme, the show is about an ambiance in which sports is the universe but only implicitly, without reference to the codified concepts of competition and performance. She cites Gilles Deleuze, who saw sports as the ultimate tool of thought at work, without winners or losers. Here we are on the sidelines, the semantic and concrete boundaries of a deserted soccer field at night A video shows someone, seen from behind and in slow motion, kicking the ball on a playing field covered with leaves, destroying the penalty area in an offside, off-camera shot, like this environment, an incitation to reverie and the blurring of our spatiotemporal references. We traverse an environment that seems to be a dream deserted by the body that previously was so present in this work. This time we become lost in an ocean of salt, on a drawing that at first glance seems to be a photo, and we wonder about a projected phrase that evokes loss, a thin, white, barely visible white neon light, a “white noise” resonating like a poem by Mallarmé.
