Sur Ins tagram, elle est fan de Drake. Née en 1978, elle enseigne en outre la poésie à la Columbia University, à New York. Elle débattra de l’existence de la conscience, entre sciences cognitives et philosophie. Se définissant comme lyrique, Lasky défend dans son essai Poetry Is not a Project (2010) une vision vitaliste de l’écriture comme « intuition », à l’opposé de l’objectivisme : « Je crois que les poèmes sont des êtres vivants qui poussent de la terre jusque dans le cerveau, plutôt que des graines plantées dans la terre par le cerveau. » D’où la nécessité de créer par le langage « un monde meilleur », de faire de la poésie « une fête » où chacun sera invité. De fait, Dorothea Lasky fait figure de première poétesse 2.0, racontant ses amours sur fond de mèmes et de Facebook : « Je voulais parler à l’assistante du véto de la vidéo de chat que m’a envoyée Jason / mais j’ai résisté de peur qu’elle trouve ça bizarre / Je suis très seule / Hier mon copain m’a appelée, bourré comme d’hab / Super lourd et la voix pleine de grelots/ Il m’a hurlé dessus avec une sorte d’aigreur / Que mes oreil les n’avaient jamais entendue / Et il m’a dit que j’étais mauvaise / Enfin, c’est peut- être pas ce qu’il a dit / Mais c’est ce que j’ai compris. » Son lexique et sa syntaxe simples, traversés de fulgurances plus complexes, ainsi que ses thématiques issues de la vie quotidienne, l’ont fait, aux ÉtatsUnis, comparer à Allen Ginsberg. Son oeuvre est inédite en français.
Éric Loret Judging by her Flickr account, Dorothea Lasky (born 1978) likes pop colors. On Instagram, she’s a fan of Drake. Her day job is teaching poetry at Columbia University. Informed by the cognitive sciences and philosophy, she’s concerned with the question of consciousness. She defines herself as a lyric poet. In her well-known essay Poetry is Not a Project (Ugly Duckling Press, 2010) she argues for a vitalist vision, calling the writing of poetry a matter of “intuition,” in opposition to objectivism: “I think poems are living things that grow from the earth into the brain rather than things that are planted within the earth by the brain.” From that flows the necessity of creating “a better world” through language, and of poetry “making a party” to which everyone is invited. Lasky could be considered the first poet 2.0, her accounts of her love life strewn with memes and Facebook: “I wanted to tell the veterinary assistant about the cat video Jason sent me/But I resisted for fear she’d think it strange/I am very lonely/Yesterday my boyfriend called me, drunk again/ And interspersed between ringing tears and clinginess/He screamed at me with a kind of bitterness/No other human had before to my ears/And told me that I was no good/Well maybe he didn't mean that/But that is what I heard.” American critics have compared her with Allen Ginsberg because of her simple vocabulary and syntax traversed by flashes of complexity, and her chatty topics. She remains unpublished in French.
