SARAH CASSENTI L’ART ZOOM ZOOM ART

Lors du confinement pour cause de Covid-19, une nouvelle forme est apparue : l’art Zoom créé par Sarah Cassenti avec le projet Egon.a. Il se décline en différents opus depuis 2020. Rendez-vous en ligne pour le prochain, le 21 avril 2024 de 18h à minuit.

L’art Zoom, ou la naissance d’un nouveau genre artistique, un concept que Sarah Cassenti, artiste et d’une famille d’artistes, a créé lors du confinement en 2020, suite à l’épidémie de Covid-19 et à l’annulation de différentes manifestations artistiques, dont Pile ou [frascq], scènes ouvertes à la performance au Générateur, à Gentilly. Comme il y eut l’art vidéo avec l’apparition des premières caméras vidéo portables, il y a, avec les manifestations Egon.a de Cassenti, l’art Zoom.

Le logiciel Zoom, qui date de 2013, au lieu d’être utilisé pour l’enseignement à distance, pour des conférences entre entreprises ou pour le télétravail, est utilisé ici, par-delà les frontières, par les artistes comme un médium d’écriture et d’invention, un lieu d’expérimentation live. Son but, et là je cite Sarah Cassenti : « Apporter de la douceur au web, l’imaginer à nouveau comme un espace singulier de pensée poétique et de gestes artistiques. » Et elle évoque des précédents, dont l’artiste Systaime qui se manifeste sur internet depuis les années 1990. Il faut préciser que Sarah Cassenti a déjà tout un parcours artistique derrière elle, d’abord avec les Nö-actions (depuis 2002), porté par le groupe des Idiotes, un « duo-du-elle » avec Hélène Defilippi, puis avec les Nönudes (depuis 2012), dont le dernier opus a eu lieu le 1er juin 2023 à l’Enseigne des Oudin, à Paris.

Son travail, englobé dans le projet Corpsétoiles, est mis en forme sur son site internet éponyme (1) : pour Egon.a, à travers le live et le online live, « la présence du corps poétique sur la toile ». Les références sont Yves Adrien, Pierre Molinier ou Michel Journiac,

avec quelques hommages, notamment pour Molinier, au Batofar, où elle est intervenue sur le dance floor.

EGON.A

Pourquoi Egon.a ? Egon est le nom d’un volcan en Indonésie, volcan lointain qui symbolise « ces longues éruptions de notre présence corporelle et performative au cours de la nuit, à répétition et en live ». Une pratique due au coronavirus, mais ici détournée. Le « .a » d’Egon. ouvre à la féminité, par-delà les genres, « à la question du corps intérieur qui déborde en douceur ». Le premier Egon.a s’est tenu le 2 mai 2020, en plein confinement, sous le titre (on Air) Désirs continus. Les huit autres ont eu lieu entre 2020 et 2022 ( estival.e Désirs continus, sacré.e, De la neige sur ton visage, la Poignée,

Fantasia vitae, Villa des Misteri et Deux enfants sous la pluie), avec des artistes français, italiens, allemands, anglais, chinois, américains… Le neuvième se tiendra le 21 avril 2024 de 18h à minuit. La pratique artistique collective de Cassenti fait appel à de nombreuses artistes femmes, dont Maya Arbel, Céline Paul, Soline de Warren, Parya Vatankhah, Karine Wehbé et elle-même. Mais des hommes aussi, bi ou homosexuels, Thomas Laroppe, Pascal le Gallois, Xavier Numa Borloz, Jeffrey LouisReed (un musicien). Je cite à nouveau Sarah Cassenti : « La beauté de ce qui se déroule provient directement de l’entente et de la connivence que nous avons entre nous, l’entrée est intime, profonde et singulière… Egon.a nous a permis de continuer de construire et de ne rien abandonner pendant cette période aux tournures alarmantes. » L’initiative a été prise sans budget. Pour le premier Egon.a, le 2 mai 2020, « 10 artistes se retrouvent entre 8h du soir et 2h du matin, performent des apparitions, des scènes élaborées, des prises de parole, les unes à la suite des autres, séparément et parfois conjointement… Egon.a était né, dans le corps, virtuel et vivant, de ce rendez-vous singulier ». Egon.a, ce sont 50 artistes et 60 heures de live diffusées à l’international. Et Sarah Cassenti, outre la direction générale de l’événement, intervient à chaque édition par des live performatifs de cinq heures faisant vivre son entité « Bodygirl », c’est-àdire elle-même. Egon.a est, en soi, un manifeste artistique.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, a new form emerged: Zoom art, created by Sarah Cassenti with the Egon.a project.

It has taken the form of different opuses since 2020. Catch the next one online on April 21st, 2024, from 6pm to midnight.

Zoom art, or the birth of a new artistic genre, is a concept created by Sarah Cassenti, an artist, and a family of artists, during the 2020 lockdown following the Covid-19 epidemic and the cancellation of various artistic events, including “Pile ou [frascq]”, stages open to performance at the Générateur, in Gentilly. Just as the advent of the first portable video cameras gave rise to video art, there is now, with Cassenti’s Egon.a events, Zoom art. Instead of being used for distance learning, conferences between companies or teleworking, the Zoom software, which dates from 2013, is used here by artists across borders as a medium for writing and invention, a place for live experimentation. Her aim, in Sarah Cassenti’s words, is “to bring a gentler touch to the web, to imagine it once again as a singular space for poetic thought and artistic gestures.” And she refers to precedents, including the artist Systaime, who has been present on the internet since the 1990s. We should note that Sarah Cassenti already has a whole artistic career behind her, starting with her Nö-actions (since 2002), supported by the Idiotes group, a “duo-du-elle” with Hélène Defilippi, and then with the Nönudes (since 2012), whose latest opus took place on June 1st, 2023, at the Enseigne des Oudin in Paris.

Her work, part of the Corpsétoiles project, is presented on the eponymous website (1): for Egon.a, through live and online live events, “the presence of the poetic body on the web.” References includeYves Adrien, Pierre Molinier and Michel Journiac, with a few tributes, in particular to Molinier at the Batofar, where she performed on the dance floor.

EGON.A

Why Egon.a? Egon is the name of a volcano in Indonesia, a distant volcano that symbolises “those long, repeated live eruptions of our bodily and performative presence during the night.” A practice due to Coronavirus, but subverted here.

The “.a” in Egon.a opens the door to femininity, beyond gender, “to the question of the inner body that gently overflows.” The first Egon.a was held on May 2nd, 2020, at the height of the lockdowns, under the title (on Air) Désirs continus. The other eight took place between 2020 and 2022 ( estival.e Désirs continus, sacré.e, De la neige sur ton visage, la Poignée, Fantasia vitae, Villa des Misteri and Deux enfants sous la pluie), with artists from France, Italy, Germany, England, China and the USA.

The ninth will be held on April 21st, 2024, from 6pm to midnight. Cassenti’s collective artistic practice involves many women artists, including Maya Arbel, Céline Paul, Soline de Warren, Parya Vatankhah, Karine Wehbé and herself. But there are men too, bi or gay, Thomas Laroppe, Pascal le Gallois, Xavier Numa Borloz, Jeffrey Louis-Reed (a musician). To quote Sarah Cassenti again: “The beauty of what is happening stems directly from the understanding and complicity we have with each other, the entry is intimate, profound and singular... Egon.a has enabled us to continue to build and not give up on anything during this period of alarming turns of events.”

The initiative was taken without a budget. For the first Egon.a, on May 2nd, 2020, “10 artists came together between 8pm and 2am, performing appearances, elaborate scenes and speeches, one after the other, separately and sometimes together... Egon.a was born, in the virtual and living body of this singular encounter.” Egon.a now involves 50 artists and 60 hours of live performances, broadcast internationally.

And Sarah Cassenti, as well as being the general director of the event, takes part in each edition with five hours of live performances, bringing her entity “Bodygirl” to life, in other words herself. Egon.a is, in itself, an artistic manifesto.
