Telling the time in two cities just got interesting
Behrens was founded in 2017 by a group of watch enthusiasts who also happened to be design mad. They named their new venture after their idol, the renowned German architect, graphic and industrial designer, Peter Behrens. Hence, the aesthetics of Behrens watches reflect the maestro’s design philosophy of simplicity and functionality.
Since its debut, the independent brand from China has seen a slew of releases, each with its own distinctive design, in a variety of shapes and sizes. Yet, there is something about them that speaks of a shared identity.
Driving Force
A prime example would be the latest addition to the family in the form of the creative interpretation of a GMT watch. The B015 NaviGraph is inspired by one of the most successful Chinese scifi movies of all time, The Wandering Earth, which tells the story of scientists creating thrusters to drive Earth to a new solar system and prevent a collision with another planet.
The watch has a symmetrical skeletonised dial revealing the movement and the date disc below. The main dial has four subsidiary dials: the
GMT’s second-time zone with 24-hour indication at 12 o’clock; the minutes indicator at three o’clock; the 24-hour day and night indicator at six o’clock; and the home hour at nine o’clock. Meanwhile, the seconds hand is centrally located.
Off The Charts
The B015 Navigraph is equipped with an automatic calibre from the Miyota 9 series, which emits an impresnsivde
4Hz frequency or 28,800 VPH. It comes in two variants with grey or blue detailing, and a housing in the form of a matte polished 42mm stainless steel case with an alligator strap.
All in all, this alluring piece embodies the Behrens DNA to a tee. Perfect for those who like something contemporary and practical yet effortlessly timeless.
