THE THREE LIONS

-

It is the logo and nickname of the England football team, which is the oldest national football team along with Scotland. This logo is derived from the Coat of Arms, chosen by King Richard I (‘Richard the Lionheart’), who reigned from 1189 to 1199. The design of the team’s logo has been changed twice: in 1949, the crowns were removed to differentiate it from that of the English cricket team, and in 2003 England topped their logo with a star to recognise their 1966 World Cup win.
