Finally safe
Last month, the rescue ship Aquarius — operated by the charities SOS Méditerranée and Médecins Sans Frontières — reached the port of Valencia, in Spain, after eight days of a difficult journey because of rough seas and being denied entry to several countries. The ship, which transported 630 migrants rescued off the coast of Libya, was not given permission to dock either in Italy or in Malta. Spain’s prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, accepted to take the migrants in to avert “a humanitarian catastrophe.”
