On September 1814, a song called "The Defense Of Fort M'Henry" was published in a small, local American newspaper called The Baltimore Patriot. No one, even its composer Francis Scott Key, thought that two centuries later it would become the most famous song in the USA: the national anthem. It took 117 years for the ballad, later renamed "The Star Spangled Banner", to be officially chosen by the US state as its symbol in 1931. To commemorate this decision, the American Antiquarian Society acquired an original copy of The Baltimore Patriot containing the song. It has been put into auction this Summer and is expected to fetch between $300,000 and $500,000.
